Flashback: Pushing

June 23rd 2:30am

I am push, push, pushing. I can't believe it's finally time. Brian is holding one leg, Laura is holding the other while counting to ten. I've been pushing for 2 1/2 hours now. Our nurse (also named Laura) was so encouraging. "That's THE push!" she kept shouting. I was thinking, as in "Thee push?" Every time she said "the push" I thought we was going to fall out. But he was nowhere in sight. Finally she said, "oh I see him!" Brian looked "yeah there he is! Amazing." I was looking in a mirror, "I want to see!" But I couldn't see. Nurse Laura reaches in and feels around, "Ooo.. I feel hair.."

Brian asks, "Do you feel a beard?!"

"Yes. Yes, I think I do feel a beard."

He was not born with a beard.

anndd... Standing!

My baby boy rolled over this morning. ::sniff::tear:: he was so proud of himself.

(Although he wasn't so proud and actually got really upset when we kept putting him on his tummy to make him do it over and over again like he was a freak show or something. Guess I wouln't be too happy either.)

Sweater Weather

Stewart and Brown
Stewart + Brown

I admit. When I see sweaters like this from that I'll only dream to see of receipt from, I think
'stunning..but $300 for a sweater? There are similar sweaters down at JCP's for $30-40.'

But.
What if.

What if we made the luxury of shopping, more of a luxury. What if we saved up to stand behind the brands that we believe in. The ones that are good for people and good for the environment. The items are meticulously chosen, cherished, and taken care of. Not just disposable fashion. We could even wait until it goes on sale. I'd be willing to shop for a few things at the Salvation Army and used the saved money to get my hands on this dress. Maybe once our family 'shopping freeze' is lifted, I can implement that for myself.

Oh Hello Friend and Elephantine

One of my favorite blogs "Oh, Hello Friend" hosted a giveaway from one of my new favorite blogger's Etsy shop called Elephantine. It's a shop chock full of delicate lovelies. Her blog
always has pictures of inspiring products and a fun little story from her day. I found her because commented on my blog telling me I was a good mom, how sweet right?

So the giveaway..I won! Could, not, believe it. I know everyone always says "I never win anything", I'll just say, "I've never won anything". So it was fun to win out of 289 commenters, and for something so beautiful!

I chose this bracelet so that Henry couldn't tug at a necklace. Check out her shop and blog. If anything, to find some inspiration!

Funny-haha, or funny ew?

I happen to be a God-fear'n, Jesus lov'n woman. But I am of course fallen and live in our world where other people's crazy collides with mine.
Our crazy
For starters Henry has his first cold, and has been sniffling and grumpy since Saturday. This has included 3 hour bedtime routines and only 2 hour stretches of sleep at night.

Thankfully Brian stayed home today and watched him so I could get a few things done for the store. So I get two packages all packed up, nice and pretty. I've carefully written each address, (although my hand writing is nothing to write home about), and put some pretty paper behind each address to make it a fun package to get. I arrive at the post office just to have the lady write a huge FROM on the front. I then let her know that I've actually included that on the back where it says "return". "Oh..." Turns it over and writes FROM over my "return"!

So I snarl, pay, snarl again and leave.

On to the grocery store. Snarl again! This lady goes out of turn and takes the space I've got my eye on, in my mind I call her a bad name which I won't say on here (assface) and go past, only to have her pull through!

Whew. Thanks. So trivial, I know. But it feels good to get that off my chest. I live in a conservative place, where everyone is polite and mayberry-esque (except for postal worker and assface,) but come from a place where we drive fast and flip people off...well, I've never flipped anyone off. My family yells and drinks and I must say....I miss it! I like to get a little rowdy sometimes and raise my voice. But rarely ever do that here in Mayberry.

So my crazy has caused me to eat 2 lofthouse cookies, a cup of ice cream, 2 bowls of cheeto puffs, and a glass of Ruby Sierra Mist. Holla, that's a lot of junk.

When someone says, "that smells funny" or "that looks funny", I would ask, "funny-ew, or funny-haha?" The following video is funny-haha.

Can't believe I wrote assface on my blog. Sorry churchgoers, it's my honest-crazy talking.

Nesting and Passion

EcoChicHandKnits.etsy.com
+ Such a fun idea

I've been working most of the day on preparing for the holiday shopping season at Dignity Regained. It's been slow going with a 3 month old, but he provides me with wonderful smiley breaks.

I've realized more and more that this store is my energy boost / escape. Some people excersice, some read or watch TV, some create. But when I have an hour to myself it's straight to the laptop to get some work done. From start (ordering products, finding great organizations,) to finish (shipping, marvelling at the products along side our customers, and giving back to organizations,) I love it. And even though since we've started in 2007 I've probably paid myself about .001 cents an hour, it has been rewarding in so many other ways. I know that it can be something great someday. Thanks to our customers who have taken this journey with me, and for changing the lives of women and children through Fair Trade.

I am that crazy lady....

You know her. She's walking around the grocery store, yelling into the cell phone, screaming kids in tow. She doesn't realize there is anyone else in the store and walks as if the isle is completely clear when it is not.

Yesterday I was at Target with Cali. Tried to return a large item from our baby registry that just wasn't working. Our registry was expired, by like 15 days. So I'm calling the 1-800 number to complain, hold screaming Henry in the Baby Bjorn, yelling over him into the phone, while walking down the toothpaste isle looking for what I need. I don't even remember seeing anyone else in that area, with the exception of concerned looking Cali. I'm sure there were more people there.

I was that crazy lady. So many things are happening now with Henry around that I swore would not. Surely not me. But it's happening. I'm more emotional, I want other people to hold him but as soon as they are I want him back, I drop things, forget things, and let things pile up. I've got a little (ok a lot) bit of crazy going on.

*Sorry Cali! I hope you'll still want to shop with me in the future.

Ok..but no Disney Characters

Henry is his borrowed plastic thing-a-ma-bob

Here is Henry in the Plastic Monster. I was so against huge plastic toys being in our house from Day 1. But Henry just has so much energy and his legs are so strong that I felt like I wasn't the best jungle gym for him. So I borrowed an exersaucer from a friend and I must say, it's been great. He loves it, which makes me smile. And I can put him down and get things done! It's almost as big as our coffee table, which makes it difficult to maneuver the living room, and even less appealing as we get our house ready to sell. But he loves it, so I do too.
